Belmond Eagle Island Lodge has reopened as the ultimate water-focused safari retreat and the Okavango Delta experience, introducing a sleek new look after a near-total rebuild. Belmond Eagle Island Lodge is one of Botswana's original safari lodges, located on a private island surrounded by some of the deepest reaches of the Okavango Delta, one of the largest inland water systems in the world and a World Heritage Site. by UNESCO. The lodge is decorated to reflect the base of an explorer. Design highlights in the twelve spacious deluxe tent rooms include king-size beds with views of the delta, large outdoor view decks, private plunge pools, luxury bathrooms with large soaking tubs, indoor and outdoor showers, a relaxation and reading corner and dressing room.
Completely reconstructed public areas include a stylish dining room with a pizza oven, a living room with a craft-style bar, a library, a separate fire pit area, and the Fish Eagle Bar, which sits directly on the water. Local craftsmen and materials were used throughout the renovations. The lodge offers a variety of essentially water-focused safari activities including speedboat safaris, barge cruises, mekoro safaris (a local canoe), fishing, as well as walking safaris and the ultimate aerial helicopter safari experience, the highlight of any guest's stay. There is an abundance of birds and aquatic wildlife around the lodge, supplemented by larger mammals such as elephants, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, as well as the ever elusive big cats that have made this island their home.
