Belmond Eagle Island Lodge has reopened as the Okavango Delta's finest water-focused safari lodge and experience, presenting a sleek new look after a near-total reconstruction. Belmond Eagle Island Lodge is one of Botswana's original safari lodges, located on a private island surrounded by some of the deepest stretches of the Okavango Delta, one of the world's largest inland water systems and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The lodge is decorated to reflect an explorer's base. Design highlights in the twelve spacious deluxe tented rooms include extra-large beds overlooking the delta, large open-air verandas with views, private plunge pools, luxury bathrooms with large bathtubs, indoor and outdoor showers, a relaxation and reading nook and dressing area.
Completely rebuilt public areas include an elegant dining room with pizza oven, a living room with a craftsman-style bar, a library, a separate fire pit area and the Fish Eagle Bar, which sits directly on the water. Local craftsmen and materials were used throughout the renovations. The lodge offers a variety of essentially water-focused safari activities including speedboat safaris, barge cruises, mekoro safaris (a local canoe), fishing, as well as walking safaris and the ultimate helicopter aerial safari experience, the highlight of any guest's stay. There is an abundance of bird and aquatic wildlife around the lodge, complemented by larger mammals such as elephants, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, as well as the ever elusive big cats that have made this island their home.
