Nestled under a canopy of winterthorn trees, Chongwe is an elephant's paradise. These gentle giants are commonly found roaming around the camp sucking up the pods that fall from these trees.
A wide range of experiences and game viewing opportunities on both land and the mighty Zambezi River. Activities are super flexible and can be combined to make the most of both. Some may like to canoe down the scenic Nkalanga channel, stopping to watch the elephants drink from the river. Others might like to try their hand at fishing (catch and release). Guests can join in sunbathing, find a vehicle and enjoy an evening drive back to camp. The stunning scenery offers incredible photographic opportunities encompassing mountain cliffs, rivers, bush, open plains, forests, etc.
Great variety of game with healthy populations of lions, leopards, wild dogs, elephants, hippos, antelopes and pangolins (most lion/leopard sightings are seen in the area at the back and around the camp). Back in your private Albida (2 bedroom) or Cassia (1 bedroom) suite, you can relax on our comfortable sofas or take a dip in your private plunge pool. Chongwe is situated at the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers with views of Mana Pools across the road. The camp occupies one of the most beautiful spots in the Lower Zambezi. You don't even need to get out of bed to see hippos, elephants, crocodiles, a variety of birds and other species that call the river and its banks home.
Special offers include: picnics on the sandbank and our famous bush braai. Dining under the stars, guests can enjoy a gin and tonic around the fire while our chefs prepare dinner in front of them. The evening concludes with a stargazing lesson from your guide and then a short trip to the hide to see if you can spot a hyena, porcupine, leopard and, if you're lucky, a pangolin or anteater.
