A series of islands dotted with palm trees, floodplains and forests, the 33,000-hectare private reserve is typical of the region's unique landscape. Duba Plains Camp offers 5 custom tents, plus a separate 2-bedroom Duba Plains Suite, all designed by Dereck Joubert to blend into the forest and taking advantage of the formation and weave to provide shade and shelter from the sun, as well as evoking the old classic African safari style of the 1920s. It is the perfect getaway for a wildlife connoisseur with millions of animals in an almost endless pattern along the floodplains.
This is the area that the owners, filmmakers, conservationists and explorers - Dereck and Beverly Joubert of National Geographic - chose as their home base. Great Plains Conservation is the only operator in this concession and offers guests the best opportunity for more private wildlife viewing.
Duba Plains develops a model that provides maximum benefits to the surrounding community, with lease funds, jobs and other projects, such as the Big Cats Caring for Communities, Lamps for Learning - solar jars and Conservation Camp for Kids. This partnership ensures that these communities receive tangible and substantial benefits from wildlife conservation.
Ceiling fans, an environmentally friendly air conditioning system above the guest's bed, along with a carefully thought out design for the tents to maintain a suitable climate and temperature for good rest and relaxation. Guests can enjoy their own private swimming pool and an outdoor lounging area under the roof. The main area consists of a large elevated dining room, and a comfortable lounge with private tables, wine cellar and library, with ample space for our guests' privacy or to share with others if they wish.
