Taking 6 years to develop, with the idea of long-term sustainability of conservation through tourism, Time + Tide Miavana is built on a pristine private island. The resort is designed for today's explorer; Guests looking for an adventure playground where our experts will recommend water and land activities, wildlife experiences, helicopter adventures, backed by the uniqueness of Madagascar. It is quite reasonable to plan magical dives on unexplored reefs, fishing trips from the beach, from other islands or from boat, wakeboarding and waterskiing at sunrise, kitesurfing safaris and spelunking adventures through the mountains with helicopters in pursuit.
Time + Tide Foundation, our philanthropic arm, has worked with many local governmental and non-governmental organizations over the past 3 years to conduct two successful lemur translocations from the mainland to Nosy Ankao. This is a decade long project, with the need for multiple translocations to ensure genetic diversity of the species on the island, as well as education and outreach on the mainland to ensure habitat and protection of the species. In the mainland forest from which the lemurs were translocated, we have employed full-time rangers to monitor all lemur species and conduct outreach to schools and residents about the importance of habitat and wildlife conservation. The second translocation brings the total lemur population to 11. With more genetic diversity among the lemurs now on the island, it is hoped that they will establish discrete home ranges and thus reduce competition for mates and territories. When the lemur population has outgrown Nosy Ankao, the long-term goal is to return some of the offspring to the mainland to repopulate areas that have been heavily affected by poaching. Some members of the Nosy Ankao community are now part of the TIME + TIDE Miavana Environmental Team and are in charge of environmental outreach to local schools and are responsible for assisting TIME + TIDE Miavana guides when guests go on a lemur tracking tour.
