It's the question we hear most often when someone begins dreaming of a Maldives honeymoon. And the honest answer is that the range is wide — but after designing dozens of Maldives honeymoons, we can give you a clear, realistic framework so you know exactly what to expect.
The first thing to understand: the Maldives is not exclusively a couples' destination. At most resorts, half or fewer of the guests are couples — the rest are families. Villas come in two, three, four, and even five bedrooms. For a honeymoon, however, adults-only resorts or those with dedicated adults-only sections are ideal.
Real Price Ranges Per Night
The following ranges are based on European plan (room only, no meals included). Prices vary by season, villa type, and specific resort:
4-star resort — beach villa: from approximately $500 USD per night. Resorts such as Cocoon, You & Me, Furaveri, or Anantara Dhigu. These are properties with excellent service, stunning beaches, and a genuine Maldivian experience without venturing into ultra-luxury territory. For many couples, this is more than enough for an unforgettable honeymoon.
4-star resort — overwater villa: from approximately $750 USD per night. The iconic Maldives experience — waking up suspended over turquoise water — at an accessible price point. The difference from ultra-luxury lies in villa size, finishes, and service level, but the view and the sensation of the ocean beneath your feet are every bit as spectacular.
Ultra-luxury resort — beach villa: from approximately $1,500 USD per night. Resorts such as Soneva Fushi, One&Only Reethi Rah, or St. Regis Vommuli. Expansive private-pool villas, butler service, exceptional dining, and an attention to detail felt in every single moment.
Ultra-luxury resort — overwater villa: from $2,500 – $3,000 USD per night. The most exclusive experience the Maldives has to offer. Vast overwater villas with private infinity pools, direct ocean access, a soaking tub overlooking the sea, and a level of privacy and service that defines ultra-luxury.
Transfer from Malé: Speedboat vs. Seaplane
This is a significant additional cost that many travelers overlook:
Speedboat transfer resorts: round-trip $300–500 USD per couple. The advantage is flexibility — if your flight lands at 11 p.m., you're taken directly to the resort, no waiting.
Seaplane transfer resorts: round-trip $1,500–2,000 USD per couple on a shared service. Seaplanes operate only until 2:00 p.m. — if your international flight arrives after that time, you'll need a night in Malé and a seaplane the following morning. This adds an extra hotel night to your budget. That said, the seaplane flight is a breathtaking experience in its own right — the aerial views over the atolls are simply spectacular.
Key insight: a "cheaper" resort that requires a seaplane transfer can end up costing more than a "pricier" resort accessible by speedboat. Your Travel Designer will help you make this comparison correctly.
The Most Affordable Season: June through August
It surprises many travelers, but the most affordable season in the Maldives runs from June through August. During these months, the Maldives competes with beach destinations worldwide — the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia — and resorts offer their best rates to attract guests. Rainfall tends to be brief and intense rather than drawn-out grey days, and the experience remains absolutely spectacular.
The most expensive period is December through January (Christmas and New Year's) and Easter week. Resorts fill quickly and rates can double.
Meal Plans: What Works Best?
In the Maldives, you can't simply "go out to eat" at another restaurant — you're on a private island. Your meal plan meaningfully affects both your experience and your budget. The options:
European plan (no meals included). You pay for the room only, and all meals and beverages are charged separately. This can ultimately be the most expensive option, as every meal and every drink adds up on your bill.
Breakfast included. A solid option if you prefer flexibility — a light lunch and dinner at the resort's various restaurants throughout your stay.
Half board (breakfast + dinner). The option we most often recommend for couples. It gives you freedom during the day while taking care of the evening meal.
Full board. All three meals included. Complete peace of mind when it comes to dining costs.
All-inclusive. Everything covered: meals, beverages (including alcohol), and select activities. The ultimate worry-free experience — you never reach for your wallet during the trip. Not every resort offers it, however, and at some properties the all-inclusive plan limits access to certain restaurants.
Flights from the United States to the Maldives
From most U.S. cities, flights typically require one or two connections and take between 18 and 26 hours in total. The most common routes pass through Europe (London, Paris, Frankfurt) or the Middle East (Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi). During certain seasons, single-connection options via Dubai or Doha become available, significantly reducing total travel time.
Many couples take advantage of a layover to spend two or three nights in a connection city — turning Dubai, Doha, or Singapore into a genuine part of the journey rather than a mere airport transit.
Destinations to Pair with the Maldives
Middle East. The most natural pairing. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar (Doha), Turkey (Istanbul + Cappadocia). The contrast between the futuristic desert luxury and the absolute serenity of the Maldives is extraordinary.
Southeast Asia. Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia. Culture, cuisine, and adventure before you disconnect entirely on a private island.
India. Rajasthan or Kerala + the Maldives. An intense, spiritual journey followed by total relaxation.
Sri Lanka. One of our personal favorites — and one of the least discovered combinations. Sri Lanka offers ancient temples, lush nature, and fascinating cuisine, and sits just one hour by air from Malé. Absolutely spectacular.

Frequently Asked Questions About Maldives Costs
All-inclusive or half board?
It depends on both the resort and your personal style. All-inclusive gives you complete peace of mind — you never think about costs during your stay. Half board offers more flexibility and is generally more affordable. Your Travel Designer will recommend the best option based on the resort you select.
Is the seaplane transfer included in the hotel rate?
No. It is an additional cost: $1,500–2,000 USD per couple on a shared service. It's essential to include this in your budget from the very beginning.
Is the Maldives only for the ultra-wealthy?
Not at all. There are options from $500 USD per night that deliver an extraordinary experience — spectacular beaches, crystal-clear water, world-class snorkeling, and service that genuinely makes you feel special. Ultra-luxury exists and is breathtaking, but the Maldives is by no means reserved exclusively for unlimited budgets.
