Morgan's Rock is part of a 1,000 hectare reforestation project and 800 hectare private reserve. More than 2 million fruit and hardwood trees have been planted over the past ten years to accelerate the return of the land to its natural state as an ecosystem. In 2004, the owners decided to build the hotel with minimal environmental impact, in order to preserve nature and the animals in the surrounding area.
With 15 bungalows and 3 private pool villas, a nature reserve and estuary, it is home to a wide variety of forest animals, from howler monkeys and sloths to white-tailed deer and many birds native to this subtropical region. The mile-long private beach is a nesting site for endangered turtles.
Some of the sustainable environmental practices implemented at the lodge include the use of solar panels to heat water in the bungalows, supporting local communities through education and donating supplies to area schools, and most of the produce used in the lodge kitchen is grown and raised organically on the property, including a variety of fruits, dairy products, poultry and shrimp.
